WorldREnewDay 2023: The World Needs to Move Faster Towards 100% Renewable Energy

24 June 2023 – On the occasion of WorldREnewDay 2023, Stefan Gsänger, Co-chair of the Global 100% Renewable Energy Platform Global100RE and WWEA Secretary General, is repeating the urgent call to the world to move faster towards 100% renewable energy worldwide:

Today it is clearer than ever: Renewable energy is energy for independence, for peace, for freedom and for the climate. The technical solutions are available, they are affordable and, in principle, accessible to everyone.

Understanding this, thousands of communities and millions of citizens around the world have become actively involved and contributing to this great transformation.

Many jurisdictions at all levels – local, regional, national and supranational – have taken the decision to shift their energy supply to renewable energy and can serve as examples for others to follow.

All governments should empower their citizens, give them the full right to use renewable energy and remove barriers to access.

More expertise is needed on how to design 100% renewable energy systems: The scientific community, governments at all levels, international organisations and businesses are called upon to work together to achieve 100% renewable energy.

We encourage the millions of members of the climate movement around the world and everyone else to become an active part of the energy transformation by buying renewable electricity, installing solar power, joining a community power unit, and many other forms of active contribution.

In particular, we express our solidarity with the people of Ukraine and call on the global community to support the country in its efforts to become energy independent through the use of domestic renewable energy, e.g. by donating for the initiative #renewables4ukaine www.renewables4ukraine.org

Background:
WorldREnewDay was launched in the year 2019 by Global100RE together with the Ambassador for 100% Renewable Energy, Ruslana Lyzhychko, former ESC winner and democracy activist from Ukraine, in order to celebrate the potentials and achievements of a renewable energy world.
