With the ongoing war in Ukraine, more and more areas in the country are cut off the electricity supply, including hospitals and other places which urgently require access to power.

In order to help civilians, the World Wind Energy Association WWEA and the Global 100% Renewable Energy Platform Global100RE (http://www.global100re.org/), supported by Global100RE Ambassador Ruslana (https://ruslana.ua/en/), are calling for donations of equipment which can supply power independently from the national grid, after all small and stand alone solar systems including batteries, power banks etc.

A major donation of over 1000 mobile solar sets has been distributed in the country. This donation has been coordinated by the Berlin based Access to Energy Institute. (www.a2ei.org).  Letter of Gratitude from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (download)

Further equipment has been shipped to Mykolaiv (Letter of gratitude of the regional administration of Mykolaiv: 221105_WWEA_Mykolaiv)

Two autonomous mobile solar trailers which were made in Ukraine and include Mobile autonomous solar trailer at the hospital of Irpinmajor battery storage capacity, providing normal AC 230 Volt power output have been handed over in Irpin to the health care center (Ukrainian TV reported: https://itvua.tv/news/ambulatorii-irpenia-otrymaly-dvi-mobilni-soniachni-elektrostantsii/, youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GrOHGz9khSk, English translation https://itvua-tv.translate.goog/news/ambulatorii-irpenia-otrymaly-dvi-mobilni-soniachni-elektrostantsii/?_x_tr_sl=auto&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=en-US&_x_tr_pto=wapp)

Letter of gratitude of Irpin Health Center, as well as the Letter of Gratitude City of Irpin.

The EKOenergy label has joined #renewables4ukraine as well and donates 20.000 € for humanitarian relief in Ukraine (Ekoenergy newsletter).

If you want to donate renewable energy equipment, please get in touch with us via our online form or write us an email at renewables4ukraine@wwindea.org

In-kind donations will be disseminated in Ukraine with the help of Ruslana Lyzhichko, former Ukrainian winner of the Eurovision Song Contest, democratic activist and Ambassador for 100% renewable energy. On the occasion of the first anniversary of the beginning of the Russian attack, Ruslana reported in the podcast #emPower4Climate about the current situation and how renewables can serve the climate, the peace and the people

Ruslana: “With your help, people in my country who are suffering so much in this war can for the first time get access to power without relying on foreign forces. Even in these difficult times, we strive for peaceful, for democratic renewable energy which allow Ukrainians to become energy independent.” (podcast with Ruslana recorded in February 2023)

Stefan Gsänger, Global100RE Co-chair and WWEA Secretary General: “This war also shows the world that fossil and nuclear energies lead to a dead end. Renewable energies for Ukraine are therefore more than humanitarian aid, they point the way to a more peaceful and sustainable world.”

Dr. Andriy Konechenkov, Chairman of the Ukrainian Wind Energy Association and WWEA Vice President: “The people in our country need now all the humanitarian aid that is possible, and energy equipment is urgently needed.”

Dr. Franz Alt, Journalist and Author: “I support this call because we are helping the people of Ukraine to continue to have access to electricity in these terrible times of war. The sun does not send a bill, this sentence takes on a special meaning. The sun shines for all of us – free of charge, environmentally friendly and for all time.”

Hans-Josef Fell, President of the Energy Watch Group, former member of the German Parliament: “I support the call because self-sufficient energy supply is extremely important in this acute emergency. But also in the longer term, it is crucial for Ukraine’s well-being to get rid of energy imports and to use domestic renewable energies – this is how peace and stability are possible in the long term.”

Robert Busch, Managing Director of the German Association for the New Energy Economy (bne):  “People need energy to meet their basic needs. In many places on the front lines, the energy supply has collapsed. Small off-grid solar battery systems can power lamps and charge mobile phones for communication, among other things. We can all contribute to this.”

Steven Vanholme from the global non-profit ecolabel for renewable energy EKOenergy label: ”We have decided to spend 20’000€ of our campaign budget on actions to support the deployment of renewable energy in Ukraine and to provide civilians in Ukraine access to power. Rather than setting up new actions and new initiatives – as our team has done quite a bit in other Eastern European countries, we prefer to support the good and impactful work of WWEA and their Ukrainian partners”
